Redefining Beauty In The Digital World

It’s easy to get fooled by the glamorous world of social media. The stunning pictures of people who appear to be leading “perfect” lives are sometimes enough to make us want to give a second thought to our own lives and appearance.

However, social media is as misleading and deceptive as a mirage.

This is because everything on social media is heavily edited and made to look like a dream—even when it’s far from it.

In a world where almost anything can be edited, it’s easy to lose yourself in a downward spiral of unhealthy comparisons.

If you ever find yourself stuck in that circle of negativity, remember these important facts.

Understand That A Picture Is Not The Complete Story

Ask yourself a question.

Would you rather post a picture of yourself on Facebook where you’re dressed for a party, or the selfie you took with your partner when you just woke up looking like a mess?

You’ll probably go with the former. Why?

Because people don’t like sharing the messy, disturbed and imperfect parts of themselves online. That’s something they’d rather keep to themselves.

Just like this example, everything on social media is only half the story.

Online Lives Are (Mostly) Photoshopped

In times where editing apps and software are always at our disposal, people have no excuse left not to look perfect online.

Why would you choose to look messy when you can look “flawless” and “glamorous” without as much as lifting a make-up brush, using a simple make-up app on your smartphone?

This means that most of the time, we’re comparing ourselves to something that isn’t even real.

Is Social Media The Monster In Disguise

You’re More Than Just Your Looks

It is important to realize that defining your entire personality on the basis of how you look is unhealthy and toxic.

It makes you overlook the parts of yourself that are beautiful and wholesome and worth admiring.

Redefining what beauty means in a time dominated with the perfect selfies, likes, comments and shares may be difficult, but it is possible.

The way we chose to define physical beauty often stems from insecurities regarding our own appearance. This often happens when we’ve found ourselves in situations where we are being invalidated because of how we look, repeatedly—often in early childhood.

But it’s possible to heal from this. With the NIKU method, you can learn to overcome the need to feel validated all the time using techniques called ‘reframing of needs’ and ‘neuropsychological implants’.

To download the app visit the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

The app works as an online psychological counselor or a life coach to help promote better mental stability.
